New London- The world lost another amazing woman in Charlotte C. Zito, 82, of Waterford, as she slipped peacefully into the hands of God Tuesday morning January 17, 2017 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. Through her continued battles with health issues she remained diligent in her love, support, kind words and affection for family and friends. Born in Clarksburg, West Virginia in 1934. She was born to John Arthur Kerns and Gladys Pearl McIntyre. Charlotte led a life of caring for others and staying involved in community activity and organizations. She was a life member and president of the Ladies Auxiliary at VFW Post 189 in New London. Over the years, she was successful as an Avon saleswoman and sale clerk at department stores such as the long forgotten "Two Guys" store. An amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, her greatest joy came from happiness of family and friends.

Charlotte is predeceased by mother Gladys Nelson (McIntyre), step-father Fred Nelson and her husband, Frank Zito, who passed in 2002. She leaves behind an impressive legacy of family including daughter Shawna Zito-Hannan and husband Michael of Waterford, son Michael Zito and his wife Renay of Griswold, sister Loretta Sue Gilmore from Virginia and a devoted loyal companion Harold "Hap" Chappell of Waterford. In addition, she has the loving respect of and love of 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, all whom were extremely devoted to and with her to the end.

Charlotte will be sorely missed by many, but has certainly left this world a better place than she found it. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
